Hispanic Honor Society

About:

Be involved in a nationally/internationally recognized organization. Spend time with others who share your passion for the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. Challenge yourself academically. Learn more about Hispanic culture and improve in the language. Improve your resume/application. Improve your leadership skills. Give back- do for others. Recognized with a special SHH cord at graduation (Seniors). Be honored in a special ceremony in the Spring. Qualify for scholarships

Meeting times:

Every second Monday of the month, October-March

Where: Srta. Smith’s room (2204)

Time Committment: 30 minutes per month of mandatory meetings. Attend additional cultural activities as desired.

Requirements:

  • Complete three years of Spanish or equivalent and be currently enrolled in a Spanish course (level IV or higher)
  • Attend the induction ceremony in the spring
  • Maintain a Spanish course GPA of 90% or higher- flexible due to COVID
  • Maintain a GPA of 80% or higher in all other courses- flexible due to COVID
  • Submit application by the fall deadline 12 de octubre (including teacher recommendation form)
  • Submit membership dues by the deadline ($10 + additional fee for cord in the SPRING for seniors)
  • Participate n service/scholarship opportunities such as:
  • Tutoring student(s) in Spanish at Prairie Ridge, Northview, or ACHS or SOS
  • Aiding a language teacher in the classroom/with classroom tasks (ACHS)
  • Participating in cultural activities & events
  • Promoting the language at the middle school level
  • Assisting with the induction ceremony
  • Events in the community
  • Participating in the SHH service project and other service activities (to be pre-arranged with group sponsor)
  • Participate in SHH meetings
  • Participate in all mandatory meetings
  • Participate in the Spanish Club events- attend when you can; provide materials/food
  • Complete the STAMP test for Seal of Biliteracy- February
  • Maintain a behavioral record free from suspension, instances of academic dishonesty, and/or a pattern of inappropriate behavior
