Robert Scott Named Activities and Athletic Director for Ankeny Centennial High School
The Ankeny Board of Education approved the hiring of Robert Scott as the new Activities and Athletic Director for Ankeny Centennial High School at its May 17, 2021 meeting. Mr. Scott will take over leadership of Ankeny Centennial Athletics and Activities on July 1, 2021 from Scott Garvis, who is pursuing other career opportunities.
Mr. Scott brings 30 years of experience as an educator and administrator. Since 2013, he has served the Davenport School District as the Associate Superintendent-Chief Academic Officer in addition to serving as the District Athletic Director and managing the music program. Mr. Scott’s career began as a physical education teacher and boys basketball head coach in Illinois before moving to Davenport Schools in 2004 and holding the positions of middle school teacher, Central High School Associate Principal, and Principal.
“He’ll be a great addition to our community,” says Dr. Jill Urich, Ankeny Centennial High School Principal. “Given his experience, leadership skills, and inclusive students-first mindset, excellence in activities will continue at Ankeny Centennial High School.”
Mr. Scott has a Bachelor of Science in K-12 physical education with a coaching endorsement from the University of Iowa, a Master of Educational Administration with a Certificate of Administration endorsement from Western Illinois University, and an Educational Leadership Superintendent Program from the University of Northern Iowa. Mr. Scott is also a member of the Hall of Honor at Davenport Central High School.
“Excited and thrilled aren’t big enough words to describe the immediate connection I felt in Ankeny,” says Scott. “My purpose is to serve all students through activities and athletics. Meeting the Ankeny Centennial community of students, staff, and parents reaffirmed how I fit in the continued success of student participation and competitive excellence of Jaguar programs.”
Scott and his wife Pam, a Director at Genesis, have been married for 31 years. They have three children Nickolas (26), Allyson (24), and Samantha (18) who earned a scholarship to play basketball for Colorado Mesa University this fall.
