Cheerleading

Welcome to Jaguar Cheer

The Ankeny Centennial High School Cheerleading program wants to model and shape our student-athlete into confident, independent leaders that can persevere through challenges as well as positively impact and support others. The program seeks to maximize the potential of an individual cheerleader, grow them as a teammate, help them positively build school spirit with good sportsmanship, and offer a variety of opportunities to perform and compete all while enjoying the squad, the sport, and supporting our ACHS teams.

Squad Selection

Any Freshman – Senior Centennial student wanting to commit to ACHS cheerleading will be placed on a squad based on their grade and ability level. All cheerleaders have the option to cheer for either one season or double sport (cheer for both fall and winter).

  • Fall Cheerleading:
    • Squad selection will begin in April and go through August for the upcoming fall season.
      • The sign-up window has closed for the 2021 Fall season.
    • Fall cheerleading will have 3 grade level squads: Freshman (9th graders), Junior Varsity (10th graders), and Varsity (11th and 12th graders). Cheerleaders will be placed on the squad that corresponds with their  grade level.
    • Based on number of participants and the coaches’ discretion, each grade level squad will be composed of 2 ability level squads: “A” and “B”. The “A” squad will practice and perform for all of their grade-level football games. The “B” squad will work to improve their cheerleading skills and will have the opportunity to perform for only the home games of their grade level football games. These squad placements will be determined prior to the Fall Sports Kick-off (Gatorade Game) and are flexible throughout the season based on the squad’s needs and individual cheerleaders’ skill levels, work ethic, and attitude.
  • Winter Cheerleading
    • Squad selection will be held in the fall for the corresponding winter season.
      • Information about Winter Cheer Squad Selections will be posted after the start of the 2021-2022 school year.
    • Winter cheerleaders have the opportunity to be placed on a variety of squads based on sport interest and ability level: Freshman, Junior Varsity, Varsity Basketball, Varsity Wrestling.
      • 9th graders can be placed on freshman, junior varsity, or varsity basketball/wrestling.
      • 10th graders can be placed on junior varsity, varsity basketball/wrestling
      • 11th and 12th graders can be placed on junior varsity, varsity basketball, or varsity wrestling.
    • Based on number of participants and the coaches’ discretion, the Freshman and Junior Varsity squads will be composed of 2 ability level squads: “A” and “B”. The “A” squad will practice and perform for their respective grade level basketball games/wrestling meets. The “B” squad will work to improve their cheerleading skills, support the team throughout the season, and will have the opportunity to cheer at Freshman B or Junior Varsity boys’ basketball games (based on grade level). These squad placements will be determined prior to the first basketball game/wrestling meet and are flexible throughout based on the squad’s needs and individual cheerleaders’ skill levels, work ethic, and attitude.
    • Varsity Basketball and Varsity Wrestling will both be considered an “A” squad. The “A” squads will practice and perform for varsity basketball games/wrestling meets. These squad placements will be determined in the fall and are flexible throughout the season with members of the Junior Varsity “A” squad based on need of the varsity squad and individual cheerleaders’ skill levels, work ethic, and attitude.
