State Champions – Black Group Stunt Team

Congratulations to the Ankeny Centennial Jaguar Cheerleading Squads for their state performances.

The Black Group Stunt Team, Lily DeBold, Ashley Simpson, Kelsey Taylor, Taylor Weaver, and Tessa Woerdehoff, were named the 4A State Champions.

The Timeout Squad placed 2nd, Fight Song squad placed 4th, Band Chant placed 4th, and the Silver Group Stunt Team placed 7th.

The Ankeny Centennial competition cheer squads are coached by Alyssa Howlett, Erin Blessman, Kaylee Brugioni, Emily Aukes, Kenzie Wyble, and Trinessa Handt. Congratulations Jaguars!

The winter season offers 8th grade athletes interested in Wrestling and Boys’ Basketball the opportunity to participate in both sports. We have a split-schedule structure in the CIML conference that offers Girls’ Basketball and Wrestling in the early season (mid October – late December) and Boys’ Basketball in the late winter season (late December – late February). Please see the details below.

8th Boys’ Basketball

There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, Nov 30th at 3:45pm in the cafeteria for students interested. Official start date will be Monday January 3rd , but there will be optional practices on Wednesday, Dec. 15th & Thursday, Dec. 16th after school from 4-5:30 at Prairie Ridge.

9th Boys Basketball

The 9th Grade Boy’s Basketball season officially begins on November 15.  Practices are held after school from 4:00-5:30 pm in the Northview Main Gym.  The “A” Team typically plays games on Tuesdays and Fridays.  The “B” team typically plays games on Mondays.  The “C” Team schedule does not include a typical day on which they play.

9th Boys Swimming

There will be an informational meeting for all boys interested in 9th grade swimming on October 28th, 2021 after school in the lunchroom.  This meeting is open to any boy interested in swimming during the 2021-22 season. 

We will be discussing the upcoming season as well as taking swimsuit orders.

Practice will begin in February  and the season will end the week before spring break. We practice every school day from 4:00-5:30 at NV Middle School Pool . Winning Edge Strength & Conditioning

A key component to the success of our athletics is preparing their bodies for athletic competition.  The Activities Department has made significant investments in the weight room facilities at both Northview and Ankeny Centennial High School.  We encourage your son or daughter to take advantage of the programs we will offer through our after school program and Winning Edge summer camp opportunities.

Summer Camps

Each sport at Ankeny Centennial High School offers a variety of summer camps for students who are interested in learning appropriate skills and techniques that will be used in the individual sports seasons.  This is also a great opportunity to meet the 8^th grade coaches.  These low cost, high skill development camps can be found at: www.ankenycamps.com (please check on a regular basis as new camps are constantly being added).

9th Boys Golf– Practice starts August 16th 

First practices will be August 16th & 17th from 9-10:00am at Des Moines Driving Range – 2944 NW 66th Ave., Des Moines. Starting August 18th, practices will be held at Woodland Hills Golf Course at 4:00pm. All players should bring their clubs and appropriate shoes.

8th Volleyball– Practice starts August 23rd  

Practice begins at 3:50 pm and will end at 5:30 pm most days except Wednesdays and Fridays.  Wednesdays and Fridays, dismissal time will be 5:00 pm.​

Practice August 9 – August 13th will be at ACHS from 9:00 – 12:00pm.  August 16 and 17 practice will be at Northview from 9:00-11:00 am. Starting August 18 through the remainder of the season, practices will run from 3:45-5:45 at Northview (Pending right now are Friday morning practices)

There will be a parent meeting and a team breakfast at Northview in the Cafeteria from 9-10:30 on Saturday, August 14.

The fall sports parent meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 16, at 6:30 p.m. at Centennial High School in the main gym.   This meeting is for parents of students in grades 9-12 that will be participating in Girls Cross Country, Boys Cross Country, Football, Boys Golf, Girls Swimming and Diving, Volleyball, Fall Cheer and Dance.   Following the brief meeting with the Activities Staff, parents will meet with coaches for additional information.

Beginning July 1, you may create or log into your existing rSchools account to update your student’s athletic registration and electronically sign participation documents for the 2021-22 school year.  Click the following link to go to the rSchools athletic registration site- https://ankenycentennial-ar.rschooltoday.com/

This process needs to be completed annually in order to participate in sports.  There are helpful tutorials and assistance contacts on the site if you have questions.

Completing the online athletic registration is the first step of the process for athletic participation for all students in grades 8-12. This does not automatically sign you up to receive sport specific communication.  Students must also attend sport specific informational meetings throughout the year that will be communicated by coaches in one of the following ways: email, website, infinite campus home page, and daily student announcements.

Open Mic’ Night LVI – The Ankeny and Centennial High School libraries are excited to host our first open mic’ night since last winter! This will be held in the CHS Library on April 28^th at 5PM.  Come share a song or poem with your friends and family!  Please sign up with Mrs. Wirtz at AHS or Mr. Honz at CHS.  Masks are required.
