Winning Edge Strength & Conditioning

A key component to the success of our athletics is preparing their bodies for athletic competition. The Activities Department has made significant investments in the weight room facilities at both Northview and Ankeny Centennial High School. We encourage your son or daughter to take advantage of the programs we will offer through our after school program and Winning Edge summer camp opportunities.

Summer Camps

Each sport at Ankeny Centennial High School offers a variety of summer camps for students who are interested in learning appropriate skills and techniques that will be used in the individual sports seasons. This is also a great opportunity to meet the 8^th grade coaches. These low cost, high skill development camps can be found at: www.ankenycamps.com (please check on a regular basis as new camps are constantly being added).

Boys Golf

9th Boys Golf– Practice starts August 16th

First practices will be August 16th & 17th from 9-10:00am at Des Moines Driving Range – 2944 NW 66th Ave., Des Moines. Starting August 18th, practices will be held at Woodland Hills Golf Course at 4:00pm. All players should bring their clubs and appropriate shoes.

Volleyball

8th Volleyball– Practice starts August 23rd

Practice begins at 3:50 pm and will end at 5:30 pm most days except Wednesdays and Fridays. Wednesdays and Fridays, dismissal time will be 5:00 pm.

Practice August 9 – August 13th will be at ACHS from 9:00 – 12:00pm. August 16 and 17 practice will be at Northview from 9:00-11:00 am. Starting August 18 through the remainder of the season, practices will run from 3:45-5:45 at Northview (Pending right now are Friday morning practices)

8th Boys Cross Country–Practice starts August 23rd

All practices begin and end at Northview Middle School. We will practice from 3:45 – 5:15 pm Monday through Friday. Athletes will be ready for pick up no later than 5:15 pm. We will have a parent meeting after the first practice at 5:20 pm in the Easy gym at Northview.

9th Girls Cross Country – Practice starts August 9th

The first mandatory practice is August 9th from 7:00 – 9:30am at the NE corner of Centennial High School. The rest of the week will continue with 7:00 – 9:00 am practices. Beginning August 16th, practices will be from 4:00 – 6:00pm. You need to have an updated physical and completed online registration to participate.

There will be a parent meeting and a team breakfast at Northview in the Cafeteria from 9-10:30 on Saturday, August 14.

Fall Parent Meeting Tuesday, August 16

The fall sports parent meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 16, at 6:30 p.m. at Centennial High School in the main gym. This meeting is for parents of students in grades 9-12 that will be participating in Girls Cross Country, Boys Cross Country, Football, Boys Golf, Girls Swimming and Diving, Volleyball, Fall Cheer and Dance. Following the brief meeting with the Activities Staff, parents will meet with coaches for additional information.

2021-22 Athletic Registration Now Open

Beginning July 1, you may create or log into your existing rSchools account to update your student’s athletic registration and electronically sign participation documents for the 2021-22 school year. This process needs to be completed annually in order to participate in sports. There are helpful tutorials and assistance contacts on the site if you have questions.

Completing the online athletic registration is the first step of the process for athletic participation for all students in grades 8-12. This does not automatically sign you up to receive sport specific communication. Students must also attend sport specific informational meetings throughout the year that will be communicated by coaches in one of the following ways: email, website, infinite campus home page, and daily student announcements.

8th Girls Track – Practice starts 3/22/2021

Sign-up / informational meeting options: Monday, March 1st at 3:45pm in the NV East Gym OR Tuesday, March 2nd at 7:45am in the NV East Gym (Enter through door S10 in the am). Interested athletes only need to attend one of the meetings. If you cannot attend either meeting, please contact Coach Waugh using the email provided below.

Practice will begin on Monday, March 22nd at 3:45p in the NV East Gym. All participants must have tennis shoes and fully completed their online Athletic registration.

9th Grade Girls– Practice starts 3/22/2021

Varsity tryouts start March 22 at Centennial in the morning and Northview in the afternoon. For players not trying out for varsity, practice will begin on March 22 at Northview after school. Practices will run from 4:05-5:45 Monday through Friday.

Updated 2/8/21: Clarification on Governor’s Proclamation

In light of the recent statewide lifting of many COVID-19 mitigation requirements, Ankeny Schools’ activities will continue to follow social distancing guidelines and mask requirements.

All CIML activity departments will continue to abide by social distancing guidelines established by the Polk County Health Department, Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, Iowa High School Athletic Association, and Centers for Disease Control.

As a result, Ankeny Schools will follow these guidelines for CIML events to keep our student athletes and fans safe.

Basketball

Varsity Players will be issued 4 wristbands to distribute to family, Lower Level Players will be issued 2 wristbands to distribute to family. We will limit visitor fans to 2 tickets per student athlete and the local school districts will determine crowd limitations based on social distancing guidelines recommended by Polk County Health Department, Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, Iowa High School Athletic Association, & CDC. CIML member schools will continue to monitor, update, and communicate our information and procedures to keep everyone as safe as possible. Cheer & Dance will continue to receive 2 wristbands at games they perform.

Swimming

8^th Boys Basketball games tonight at SE POLK have been postponed to Thursday, February 25…same time and structure due to weather. There will be NO PRACTICE tonight!

9^th B/C BBB @ Johnston is canceled for tonight

9A BBB vs. DM Roosevelt has been postponed to Saturday, Feb. 13^th. Game times TBD.

9th grade practices cancelled tonight also.
